Training
Scallywags Puppy School and Dog Training
Offers group classes and individual training sessions to help you and your beloved four-legged companion have the best relationship possible. Scallywags Puppy School Course is aimed at puppies from 10 – 16 weeks of age and focuses on socialisation and an introduction to basic obedience behaviours. Scallywags Canine Good Manners is a 6-week course focusing on teaching dogs from 6 months of age basic obedience behaviours. This course is offered on a rollover basis so you can enroll anytime. Each course consists of six sessions, each an hour long. Each owner will also receive a hand-out covering the topics in more detail and giving step-by-step instructions for training the basic obedience behaviours that will be demonstrated, taught and practiced in the practical sessions.
Puppy School Level 1
Not only will the course give you a wealth of information about common puppy problems such as house training, teaching a puppy bite inhibition (very important with sharp puppy teeth!), appropriate chew toys to reduce destructiveness, etc., it also allows the puppy time to socialize with other puppies and their handlers.
Canine Good Manners
The goal of this course is to provide dogs with a solid foundation of training in basic good dog manners, but more importantly, to provide owners with the skills necessary to communicate effectively with their dogs. These skills, built on a foundation of positive reinforcement and trust between dog and owner, will pave the way towards long-term learning and overall better behaviour.
Elementary Obedience
The adolescent stage of puppyhood is an important time to teach manners and basic desirable behaviours, but dogs of any age benefit from obedience training. While level 1 (Puppy School or CGM) focuses on socialisation and/or introducing puppies and dogs to the world of obedience training, this next level of obedience training aims at strengthening that line of communication between dog and owner and perfecting the behaviours they started learning in level 1.
Brain Games
The brain games course is a fun and stimulating course for both dog and owner. The games and behaviours taught throughout the six weeks of the course will help to develop that all-important aspect of training – your relationship with your dog.
Dogs attending this course need to have reached a decent level in their obedience training, but the course content is valuable and trainable to any dog. Handlers will require an interest in training theory and time to dedicate to training.
Private Consultations
Many unwanted behaviours such as begging at the dinner table, jumping up at guests, pulling on a walk, are a result of bad habits that have gone unchecked over time. Often a simple change in the environment and some additional training to re-inforce an acceptable behaviour is all that is required to establish a happy, trouble-free home. Since many of these unwanted behaviours occur within the home environment private training consults can be arranged at your home at a convenient time
